what is Huperzine A Powder?
Huperzine A powder is a natural, reversible, and highly selective second-generation acetylcholinesterase inhibitor with the chemical formula C11H1₈N2O. It appears as a slightly off-white or white crystalline powder at room temperature and is readily soluble in chloroform and methanol and slightly soluble in water. Due to its low molecular weight and high lipid solubility, it rapidly crosses the blood-brain barrier and accumulates in brain regions closely related to learning and memory, such as the frontal lobe, cortex, and hippocampus. Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity increases the concentration of acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft, thereby increasing neuronal excitatory transmission and enhancing memory storage and retrieval. Clinically, Huperzine A powder, tablets, capsules, and freeze-dried powder injections are widely used as adjunctive treatments for memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), vascular dementia, and myasthenia gravis.

The dose and administration of Huperzine A
Huperzine A is a new alkaloid isolated from the plant Melaleuca of the genus Melaleuca. It has strong cholinomimetic activity and is a highly efficient and reversible cholinesterase inhibitor. By inhibiting cholinesterase, it inhibits the degradation of acetylcholine and increases its activity, which may improve neurotransmitter transmission. The main side effects are vomiting and constipation.
It is clinically used to treat Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative disease of the nervous system that mostly occurs in people over 60 years old and has an insidious onset. It can manifest as progressive mental decline and personality changes. There are no specific treatments. Drugs that improve brain metabolism and improve blood circulation can be used in the early stage. Donepezil and Shishanmaine A can also be used.

Scientific administration of huperzine A
Oral drugs
Huperzine A tablets/capsules: Typical dosage: 50 mcg (0.05 mg) per tablet (capsule).
• Memory impairment, Alzheimer’s disease: 0.1–0.2 mg (2–4 tablets) twice daily, taken with warm water after breakfast and lunch. The duration of treatment is 4-6 weeks, and 1-2 treatments may be continued based on efficacy and tolerability.
• Healthy adults looking to improve learning and performance: Start with 50 mcg in the morning on an empty stomach. After 3 to 5 days, increase to 100 mcg twice daily unless significant discomfort occurs. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 0.45 mg (9 tablets).
• If symptoms of cholinergic stimulation such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea occur, reduce the dose or discontinue the drug immediately. Symptoms usually resolve on their own within 24 hours.
Injection Molding
Huperzine Freeze-dried powder for injection: 0.2 mg/vial or 0.4 mg/vial.
• Memory impairment: 0.2 mg dissolved in 2 mL of sterile water by injection and injected intramuscularly once daily for 2-4 weeks, then switched to oral maintenance.
• Myasthenia gravis: 0.2-0.4 mg intramuscularly once daily for 4-6 weeks, or as directed by the physician.
• Rapid injection, Tmax about 10-30 minutes and bioavailability >95%. However, this should be done under the supervision of a hospital or qualified healthcare professional to avoid adverse reactions such as local pain and swelling.
Effect of huperzine A powder on sleep
In general: low oral doses (0.05–0.1 mg) do not significantly disrupt sleep structure; instead, they may indirectly improve sleep quality by improving daytime cognitive functioning and reducing anxiety.
Higher doses or sensitized individuals: After a single oral dose > 0.3 mg, some individuals experience symptoms of cholinergic hyperactivity such as prolonged insomnia, increased morning sickness.
