what is Chicory Extract Powder?
When many people first hear "chicory extract powder," they confuse it with regular chicory root powder. In fact, the two are quite different. Simply put, chicory extract powder is a light brown or milky white fine powder obtained by washing, slicing, low-temperature extraction, membrane filtration, decolorization and desalination, and spray drying the fleshy roots of chicory (Cichorium intybus).
Chicory extract powder main components are three types:
Inulin, which can reach over 86% content, is a soluble dietary fiber that nourishes intestinal probiotics.
Polyphenols, such as chicoric acid, chlorogenic acid, and caffeic acid derivatives, have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and can regulate blood sugar and lipids.
Minor amounts of triterpenes, coumarins, and minerals (potassium, calcium, magnesium, and zinc) work synergistically.
Because it removes crude fiber and a significant amount of starch, chicory extract powder is purer, dissolves faster, and has a milder taste. It can be directly diluted with water, made into tablets, or added to formulas, making it popular with brands and contract manufacturers.

Inulin is classified as a prebiotic dietary fibre. It is mainly found in chicory roots, Jerusalem artichokes and dahlia tubers. It is a water-soluble dietary fiber, also a natural carbohydrate, almost not be acid hydrolysis and digestion. There are plenty of beneficial microbial fermentation, which makes inulin having fructooligosaccharide and dietary fiber characteristics.

The Effects of Chicory Root Extract
Blood Sugar Regulators
At the 2016 Beijing Diabetes Prevention Conference, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine released data showing that after eight weeks of giving volunteers with type 2 diabetes 5 grams of chicory extract powder daily, their fasting blood sugar levels dropped by an average of 1.2 mmol/L, and their two-hour postprandial blood sugar levels dropped by 2.4 mmol/L. The principle is simple—inulin Chicory Extract Powder slows down the absorption of sugar in the intestines.
Intestinal Protection
A dairy factory in Shandong adds chicory extract powder to yogurt, and after a 21-day shelf life, the viable bifidobacterium count remains over 100 million. I took it for a week, and my morning toilet trips have been much smoother.
Liver Protection
A friend of mine works in foreign trade and socializes constantly. He drinks a 3-gram packet of chicory extract powder after drinking, and his transaminase levels don't spike too much the next day. The lab's explanation is that chicoric acid reduces fat accumulation in the liver, but I'm only half-convinced, considering he also abstained from alcohol for three days.
Uric Acid Lowering
A small-scale trial at a gout clinic in 2019 found that 40 men taking 6 grams of chicory extract powder daily saw an average drop of 48 μmol/L in blood uric acid over four weeks. Doctors cautioned: "Don't expect this to replace allopurinol," but combined with drinking more water and cutting back on barbecue, it did alleviate the pain.
Antioxidant
The simplest and most crude test: Apply chicory extract powder to a cut apple, and it will rust in half an hour. While this isn't as obvious on humans, it does show a free radical scavenging rate of over 80% in the laboratory.

Where can I buy chicory extract powder?
Chicory extract powder has been included in my country's "Catalogue of New Resource Foods." Eligible products must be labeled "Chicory Extract Powder" or "Inulin (from chicory root)" and indicate a recommended daily intake of ≤15g. When purchasing, we recommend choosing a factory with an SC production license, ISO22000/HACCP system certification, and export registration.
